Doing Research at Noctalis

Bat research at Noctalis is led by Florian Gloza-Rausch, qualified biologist and curator of the Noctalis Exhibition. On various projects done in cooperation with the Institute for Virology of the University Hospital of Bonn chaired by Professor Christian Drosten, the Noctalis researchers have travelled to Rumania, Bulgaria and Western Africa.

Selected Landmark 2010
In the „365 Landmarks in the Land of Ideas“ competition of 2010, held by the „Germany – Land of Ideas“ nation-branding initiative in cooperation with Deutsche Bank, Noctalis research was designated a „Selected Landmark“. Under the patronage of the German President this competition rewards ideas and projects that make a lasting contribution to Germany’s future. As a „Selected Landmark“ Noctalis is an ambassador for the Land of Ideas and represents Germany’s innovative potential.

Bats have been around for more than 50 million years. That makes them one of the veritable success models of evolution. What makes them so robust? What can they teach us? Bat research provides important information for the interdisciplinary cooperation with medical and virological research.
